MycoWorks will install YUME YUME in the museum in Amsterdam

MycoWorks, a San Francisco-based company that is credited with creating the biomaterial ReishiTM, has teamed up with YUME YUME, a conscious design collective, to exhibit an installation at the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam. The exhibit, titled #16 Descent into Fungal, provides a unique and immersive look at how humans have manipulated mycelium, the basic building block of mushrooms, and the main ingredient in MycoWorks’ leather substitutes. The partnership, which came about because of an 18-month brainstorming session between Xavier Gallego, Creative Director of MycoWorks, and Eva Korsten, Creative Director of YUME YUME, will be on display at Buro Stedelijk, an Amsterdam art space that encourages experimentation and creativity, from November 30, 2023, to January 25, 2024.

The creative director of YUME YUME, Eva Korsten, expressed excitement about the collaboration and emphasized the enormous potential of mycelium in the fashion industry.

She emphasized the beauty of mycelium-based materials and their potential in fashion, as well as the need of creating designs only with ReishiTM. This partnership seeks to highlight the opportunities and raise awareness of the wide range of materials that are currently accessible in the fashion industry.

The newest substance to be sought after by MycoWorks is called ReishiTM. It comes from the field of bio fabrication and was first found outside of labs through the use of live organisms, especially mycelium, in sculpture. This partnership strengthens on earlier works such as Deadwood Studios’ Mycelium Capsule and Heron Preston’s A Fruit Bowl, securing reishi’s standing as a cutting-edge substance in great demand.
