The partnership seeks to expand Pakistan’s unexplored gas resources and strengthen energy cooperation. With the goal of exploring and developing Pakistan’s shale and tight gas deposits, China’s CNPC Chuanqing Drilling Engineering Company Ltd. (CCDC) and Pakistan’s top exploration and production firm, Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL), inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
In Xi’an, Shaanxi Province, China, at the 8th Silk Road International Expo for Investment and Trade, the MoU was signed in front of Federal Minister for Petroleum Dr. Musadik Malik, according to a press statement.
The deal demonstrates how committed both countries are to using their own natural gas resources to meet Pakistan’s energy demands. On behalf of their respective firms, Zhang Zhidong, Vice President of CCDC, and Mumtaz Ali Soomro, Executive Director (Production) of OGDCL, signed the Memorandum of Understanding.
Khalil Hashmi, Pakistan’s ambassador to China, was also present at the function.
Dr. Musadik Malik was upbeat about Pakistan and China’s energy cooperation in the future, emphasizing that the collaboration between OGDCL and CCDC will open up new avenues for the investigation of Pakistan’s unexplored tight gas and shale resources.
