In the midst of market troubles, Frasers group becomes Boohoo’s largest stakeholder

Overtaking founder Mahmud Kamani, retail magnate Mike Ashley’s Frasers Group has surpassed the online clothes store Boohoo as the company’s largest stakeholder.

According to regulatory documents, the parent company of Sports Direct, Flannels, and House of Fraser, Frasers Group, raised its ownership of Boohoo from 10.4% to 13.4%.

This transaction follows Frasers Group’s original purchase of a 5% stake in Boohoo in June, which was followed by a gradual increase in its share price throughout the summer.

With a 72% ownership position in Frasers Group, Ashley, the former owner of Premier League football team Newcastle United, continues to exercise authority.

Boohoo, however, had a difficult week on the stock market, with a substantial decline in its shares to an eight-year low. In its revised revenue and profit projections, the business predicted a potential 17% drop in sales for the 12 months ending in February 2024.

Additionally, it reduced the previously anticipated annual profit range of £ 69 million to $ 78 million to £ 58 million to € 70 million.

Due to the loss of 2.2 million clients and a 5.1 million decrease in orders, for a total of 23.2 million, revenue fell by 17% to £ 729.1 million.
