With great pleasure, we declare that Friday, June 7 through Sunday, June 9, London Fashion Week June presented by 1664 Blanc (LFW) will occur. LFW June seeks to spark a cultural revolution in London by giving a range of British designers and brands a stage, with an emphasis on the scope and diversity of menswear companies operating in the country. Aligned with the year-long commemorations of London Fashion Week’s 40th anniversary (LFW40), the novel idea aims to emphasize London’s status as a preeminent global cultural hub and enhance its artistic community. The goal of LFW June in the future is to give designer brands and the various ethnicities and cultures that have contributed greatly to the British fashion industry a stage.
As part of the new structure, the BFC will take over the Institute of Contemporary Arts on Friday, June 7th. There, they will offer a curated program that includes panel discussions, exhibitions, and cultural activities that are inspired by the first three cultures the BFC has chosen to highlight this season. The BFC will examine Black culture, which is centered on self-love; South Asian culture, which is centered on pattern, textile, and craftsmanship; and queer culture, which is centered on the emerging creative voices of the trans community, in partnership with three guest curators. Storytelling with a London base will highlight British designers and brands together with individual accounts from various communities within these cultures.
A retrospective installation honoring the achievements of LFW and its significant global significance at the crossroads of culture will take place in honor of LFW40.
The “40 for 40” program, which features an amazing lineup of 40 activations throughout the city presented by top British designers and businesses, will complement this. These include presentations, events, and catwalk shows. On Sunday, June 9th, the BFC will commandeer the Groucho Club in order to offer designers and businesses a vibrant area for activation. The immersive program aims to provide visitors with novel experiences and opportunities to explore the city and brands.
“As we continue to celebrate LFW40, we are thrilled to share a new concept for LFW June which will amplify our designers and promote the diverse menswear businesses, from streetwear to Savile Row, as well as retail in the city,” said Caroline Rush, Chief Executive of the British Fashion Council. Our goal is to build on this by honoring and celebrating a few of the cultures that have made significant contributions to the UK fashion industry each year. Our ongoing discussions with the BFC community—which includes designers, the media, and both domestic and foreign retailers—have directly led to the creation of the new format.
We want to make sure that we are understanding the business requirements of our designers and giving them access to a worldwide platform for exhibiting their work that is both useful and pertinent. This year’s LFW presents an incredibly exciting chance to showcase the UK’s ability to innovate and future-proof its fashion industry while highlighting the city’s unique selling point for Men’s Fashion Week. We are excited to introduce this new format with 1664 Blanc’s backing.
