China to extend zero-tariff treatment to Ethiopia, Niger, & Burundi

China’s state council customs tariff committee said that starting on March 1, 2023, 98 percent of taxable goods coming from Ethiopia, Burundi, and Niger will be exempt from tariffs. This action aims to promote an open global economy, the growth of the least developed countries, and Chinese friendship and cooperation with African states.

At the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation’s (FOCAC) eighth ministerial session in Senegal last year, China committed to offering LDCs trade benefits.

These advantages will be gradually extended to all other LDCs that have established diplomatic ties with China.
