To expand its airborne delivery program, Amazon has revealed intentions to bring its drone delivery service to Britain, Italy, and a third U.S. site.
Customers in these regions will have the option to receive their items through drones beginning in late 2024, which will be linked into Amazon’s current fulfillment network and run from same-day delivery locations, the firm said.
According to Amazon Prime Air Vice President David Carbon, Amazon’s delivery drones are already in use in California and Texas, and a more capable MK30 model is expected to withstand even the worst weather.
Even though the drone program is still in its early stages, Prime AI Director of Engineering Jason Patrao highlighted the customers’ desire for speedier deliveries and expressed confidence in its future success.
In anticipation of a rapid shift in package delivery speed, Amazon first disclosed its drone delivery intentions in 2013. Although creator Jeff Bezos laid forth an ambitious vision, development has been slow. In Lockeford, California, and College Station, Texas, the Prime Air service was launched last year. However, as of May, only 100 deliveries had been registered, well below the internal objective of 10,000 for the year, according to CNBC.
