The Bangladesh Apparel Exchange (BAE), the University of Groningen in the Netherlands, and BUFT worked together to develop the “Circular Textile Hackathon,” an innovative program, at the permanent campus of BGMEA University of Fashion and Technology in Nishatnagar, Turag, Dhaka.
This project, which is supported by the Dutch Agency for Entrepreneurship (RVO) and is a part of the RVO Orange Corner Circular Textile Hackathon, aims to promote innovation and the implementation of circular economy concepts in Bangladesh’s textile industry.
The event was graced by Md. Shafiul Islam, the head of BUFT’s Board of Trustees (BoT).
Other prominent attendees included Prof. Dr. SM Mahfuzur Rahman, Vice Chancellor of BUFT; Prof. Dr. Eng Ayub Nabi Khan, Pro Vice Chancellor; Titus van der Spek, Senior Researcher at The Hague University of Applied Science and Valorization Researcher at the University of Groningen; Kim Poldner, faculty at the University of Groningen; Mostafiz Uddin, Founder and CEO of Bangladesh Apparel Exchange; Khalid Hossain, Partnership Lead at Bangladesh Apparel Exchange; Tanzila Tajreen, Senior Policy Advisor for Private Sector Development Economic Affairs at the Netherlands Embassy; Ashim Rahman, Policy Advisor for Business Development at the Netherlands Embassy; Sharmily Sarker Mishu, Head of the Department of Fashion Studies of BUFT; and Rayed Barkat, Assistant Professor at the Department of Fashion Studies of BUFT.
Attending the ceremony were the treasurer, deans, and chiefs of academic and administrative affairs. The Netherlands Enterprise Agency, Bangladesh Apparel Exchange (BAE), BGMEA University of Fashion and Technology (BUFT), University of Groningen, and others collaborated on the “Circularity Through Design Thinking Collaboration Project” initiative.
