In a major step to facilitate the cotton farmers, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif approved PRs 8,500 per 40 kilograms as the support price for the commodity this year. The Prime Minister directed to present the matter to the Economic Coordination Committee on a priority basis.
He added, “Provincial governments must ensure the prescribed price of cotton. Federal governments will take every step to help Provincial governments to ensure the prices.”
Cotton is a way of earning foreign currency for Pakistan. The government is now working on ways to increase per-acre cultivation of cotton on a priority basis. He ordered the Ministry of National Food Security to complete its work quickly.
Prime Minister Shahbaz Shareef said, “Cotton is the textile industry’s backbone. We will benefit farmers by growing more cotton crops. This will benefit textile exports, saving money spent on cotton imports and foreign currency exchange”.
