Karl Mayer Group’s most recent large-scale solar installation aims to enhance sustainability initiatives

By broadening its scope to include mechanical solutions and textile products, the KARL MAYER GROUP has made progress toward sustainability. This action aims to enable solar energy operations within its value chain. At its Obertshausen headquarters, the group has finished installing the largest photovoltaic system to date. The system’s 2.4 MWp capacity will allow it to autonomously generate more than 35 percent of the total electricity used on-site, according to Michael Sustelo, Head of Facility Management at the company, who emphasizes the importance of this development.

First, the assembly hall in Obertshausen’s roof received its first set of photovoltaic elements on February 16, 2023, after a sturdy foundation was built.

Other roofs will need to be converted in later stages. If all goes according to plan, the objective is to install about 6,000 modules, covering an area of about 12,000 m2, and lay over 60,000 meters of cable by the middle of the year.

With innovations like its energy-efficient tricot machine with a direct drive system, design software for flat-knitted textiles that lessens reliance on physical patterns and material consumption, and partnerships with Lenzing to support the integration of a higher proportion of botanical, biodegradable, and fossil fuel-free materials in textile production across warp knitting and flat knitting machinery, Karl Mayer has a history of advancing sustainability efforts and setting new benchmarks.
