The largest corporate sustainability project in the world, United Nations Global Compact Network Sri Lanka (Network Sri Lanka), has sent a powerful call to action to business leaders across the nation.
“Commit to ambitious sustainability targets and accelerate Sri Lanka’s advancement towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through the creative global project “Forward Faster,” is their message.
UNDP Sri Lanka’s resident representative, Azusa Kubota, emphasized the need for cooperation between UNDP and stakeholders to make sure that their work promotes a healthier world and people.
She emphasized that to achieve socioeconomic recovery, investments must be in line with the SDGs, and the private sector is essential to bringing about this transformation.
The United Nations resident coordinator in Sri Lanka, Marc-André Franche, echoed this idea and emphasized the business sector’s critical role as sustainability advocates.
He applauded increased cooperation and restated the UN’s resolve to work with companies to develop business partnerships to conceive routes toward the SDGs.
As a component of the UN Global Compact, the “Forward Faster” campaign calls on world business leaders to take decisive action in several critical areas, such as finance and investment, living wages, water resilience, gender equality, and climate action.
By speeding progress toward all the SDGs, these areas will be crucial in enabling a collective effect by 2030.
Network Sri Lanka launched the “Forward Faster” program locally during the “Compass 2024” event, which has as its topic “Towards a Resilient Future Through Corporate Impact.” The initiative aims to ignite private sector leadership in promoting revolutionary change.
During the presentation of the experiences of the 2021 SDG Pioneer for SDG 12 Responsible Production and Consumption from Sri Lanka, notable speakers including members of the UN expressed their perspectives.
The overall strategy for 2024 was presented by Rathika de Silva, executive director of UN Global Compact Network Sri Lanka.
With the help of this roadmap, participating organizations should be able to improve their governance practices, set challenging goals, and seize possibilities for innovation.
