Sembcorp Industries, Sojitz Corporation, Kyushu Electric Power Co., and NYK Line inked the Heads of Terms (HoT) agreement, confirming a cross-border arrangement for the delivery of green ammonia from India to Japan. This deal, which is the first of its kind between the two countries, highlights India’s rising stature in the world’s green energy scene.
Using renewable energy sources, Sembcorp Industries, based in Singapore, will spearhead the manufacturing of green ammonia in India. By incorporating this green ammonia into their energy mix, Kyushu Electric Power Co. has pledged to partially replace the coal used in its thermal power plants in Japan.
In order to connect the ammonia producer and the offtaker, Sojitz Corporation will serve as a business mediator. The maritime delivery of the green ammonia from India to Japan would be managed by NYK Line.
“Today is a historic day as we mark the first-ever agreement for the supply of Green Ammonia from India to Japan,” Shri Pralhad Joshi said during his speech at the ceremony, highlighting the significance of this relationship. This deal will open the door for more partnerships in the green energy industry by establishing a strong supply chain from Japanese consumption to Indian production.”
The Minister emphasized how Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has led India to make quick progress in green hydrogen and renewable energy.
He restated India’s resolve to lead the world in the generation of green hydrogen and ammonia, leveraging alliances, establishing strong legal frameworks, and making significant investments in the field.
Additionally, Shri Pralhad Joshi revealed that there are currently open tenders for 7.5 lakh TPA of green ammonia, and that there are also open tenders for 4.5 lakh TPA of capacity. These initiatives are a part of India’s larger plan to provide incentives for the production of more than a million tonnes of green hydrogen annually, showcasing the country’s capacity and determination to increase the production of green energy at a never-before-seen rate.
The Minister went on to discuss the close cultural and interpersonal ties that exist between Singapore, Japan, and India and mentioned that the three nations are working together on energy-related and renewable energy technology.
