During the first five months of 2023, China’s port activity increased significantly. According to figures supplied by the country’s Ministry of Transport, container throughput at Chinese ports increased by 4.8% year on year (YoY), with a total of 122.07 million twenty-foot equivalent units handled.
Furthermore, the ministry indicated that cargo throughput was on the rise, with a 7.9 percent increase from the same time the previous year. The total volume was 6.75 billion tones.
Foreign trade cargo throughput at these ports increased even more, at 8.5% year on year.
China’s ports recorded a 9% year-on-year increase in cargo throughput in May alone, while container throughput increased by 4.8%. The impressive report highlights China’s port activity’s solid rise and suggests a prolonged resurgence in its overseas commerce amid a progressively stabilizing global economy.
