The largest online retailer in the world, Amazon, is spending over €700 million on robots and AI-powered technologies for its network of fulfillment centers (FCs) throughout Europe in an effort to increase customer happiness and generate new jobs.
Amazon plans to introduce 120 new automation technologies across its European network by 2024.
By the end of 2024, the 2017-founded Innovation Lab—which represents an investment of over €700 million—will have deployed over 1,000 new robots and AI-powered technologies throughout the European FC network, according to Amazon. The biggest online retailer in the world asserted that these cutting-edge devices, which actively support Amazon employees in their work, include item sorters, pallet movers, and automatic guide cars.
According to Amazon, technology and robotics are critical to enhancing its network of operations, and artificial intelligence (AI) enables it to scale these advancements for a worldwide business that provides services to millions of customers.
As per Amazon, the diverse skill sets required for its technologies have led to the generation of new employment opportunities. Furthermore, it claims that technology has improved over 50,000 employment in FCs by helping employees with their responsibilities and providing them with a “safer working environment and upskilling opportunities”.
