The most cutting-edge circular performance running shoe from Japanese sportswear manufacturer Asics has been released. It is designed to be recycled at the end of its useful life without compromising on style or usefulness.
Asics designed the Nimbus Mirai running shoe with sustainability in mind. The sneaker has a special return policy that encourages customers to send it back “so it can be remade to run again.”
The running shoe is one of the most technologically advanced sneakers that Asics has ever made. When the time comes, the shoe may be easily detached and recycled because the entire upper is composed of homogenous polyester and does not have any overlays.
Additionally, the Nimbus Mirai comes with a unique Asics adhesive that makes recycling easy by providing a strong bond that is easily removed for reuse and can endure repeated use.
Asics claims that the complete shoe is designed to allow for the easy removal of the sole and upper over time. After going through the recycling process, 87.3 percent of the best material was found to be tested and recoverable as fresh polyester material that could be used to make new products.
The shoes also include an FF Blast Plus Eco midsole, which is made up of roughly 24% renewable resources, including leftovers from the production of sugar cane, and offers cushioning similar to that of clouds.
When the shoe reaches the end of its useful life, runners can return the Nimbus Mirai in-store at Asics or via shipping in a number of its global markets, including retail locations in the UK, the Netherlands, and France.
