With recently submitted Science Targets (SBTs) and a collaboration with TrusTrace to “gain greater visibility across its supply chain,” New Look has released its Sustainability Report 2023.
The report includes an update on New Look’s “Kind to Our Core” sustainability policy, which was introduced in January 2022. November 2023 is when it is expected that the SBTs will be approved.
The long-term objective is to attain Net Zero emissions by 2040; the short-term target is to reduce carbon emissions by 46% by 2031. Furthermore, by 2030, New Look aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions associated with its products by 50%. This is just one of the many ESG targets that it is dedicated to achieving.
In addition, earlier this month, the high-street retailer of apparel invited all of its suppliers to a supplier conference it was hosting in London to discuss sustainability objectives, collaboration, and ethical sourcing.
New Look informed the suppliers at the conference that it will be applying its policies across its supply chain and has committed to the Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals (ZDHC) roadmap. The vendors were also requested to calculate their carbon footprints.
Last month, a partnership was established between New Look and TrusTrace, a global pioneer in supply chain compliance and transparency. The deal will help New Look “identify and mitigate responsible sourcing and business continuity” by enabling it to better manage its supply chain, all the way up to Tier 4 vendors.
“Over the last 18 months, we have embraced our ‘Kind to Our Core’ strategy and made significant progress across our targets,” said Sue Fairley, Head of Sustainability at New Look.
“At TrusTrace, we have a vision of the future where all value chains are traceable, circular, and fair, and we are excited to partner with New Look,” said Shameek Ghosh, CEO and co-founder of the company.
