Textile technology at ITMA 2023 in Italy reflects the industry’s epidemic comeback

Recovering from the pandemic’s impact, the global textile sector has shown incredible resilience, attracting the world’s attention with its strong presence at ITMA 2023 in Milan, Italy. The much-anticipated expo served as a comprehensive demonstration of cutting-edge innovations, made possible by a massive assembly of 1,709 exhibitors.

ITMA 2023 drew decision-makers and significant entrepreneurs who realized the exhibition’s importance in determining the future of the textile industry. The show received an extraordinary reaction from a broad and passionate visitor ship of over 111,000 from 143 countries.

The top six visitor nations were Italy (29%), Turkey, India, and Germany (6% each), France (4%), and Brazil (3%), according to a joint press statement from the European Committee of Textile Machinery Manufacturers (CEMATEX) and ITMA Services.

“This edition was a huge success, with more visitors than the previous exhibition in 2019.” The transformation journey towards digitization and sustainability has taken a significant step ahead at this ITMA. With the attendance of stakeholders across the whole textile and garment manufacturing ecosystem, it was a massive gathering.

CEMATEX organizations and member firms, as well as all other exhibitors, are overjoyed with the results, as the show exceeded all of our expectations,” stated Ernesto Maurer, CEMATEX president.

“The Milan edition’s results confirmed ITMA as the most important showcase for the global textile machinery industry.” According to the quality of visitors, it was a wonderful success, and many Italian exhibitors got contracts and sold their machines,” said Federico Pellegata, director of ACIMIT.

Several delegations and supporting organization groups attended the 19th edition of the world’s biggest textile and garment technology show.

ITMA 2023 welcomed high-level country delegations from two major textile manufacturing countries, India and Uzbekistan, among numerous officials and government representatives.

The delegation from Uzbekistan, the world’s sixth-largest cotton producer, was led by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, who stated his country’s strong commitment to grow its textile sector.

Darshana Vikram Jardosh, India’s minister of state (textiles and railroads), headed the Confederation of Indian Textile Industry (CITI) business delegation. The team included 39 top Indian textile and apparel CEOs eager to capitalize on new prospects created by digitalization and sustainability. “ITMA 2023 was a fantastic display of textile machinery.” “I am confident that interactions at the fair will stimulate additional investment in the sector and help India achieve Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 5F vision of Farm to Fibre to Factory to Fashion to Foreign,” Jardosh added.

Valentina Superti, director of the European Commission’s DG GROW-Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship, and SMEs, was also present at ITMA 2023. She spoke at the Impact Financing for Sustainable Transformation conference.

Exhibitors at ITMA, ranging from start-ups to seasoned industry heavyweights, gave the 2023 edition the thumbs up.

“ITMA 2023 is once again the place to be for global decision-makers and experts.” Our involvement in key subjects such as sustainability and digital process solutions brought solutions to current client concerns. We had an incredible amount of in-depth interactions with our overseas clients. We are pleased that ITMA takes IPR regulation enforcement seriously. “We had successfully taken action against a case of patent infringement during the exhibition,” said Arno Gartner, CEO of Karl Mayer Group.

“ITMA 2023 in Milan was our first large trade show participation, where we were allowed to participate in the Start-up Valley, a truly innovative environment that drew a lot of attention from the visitors.” We received an amazing favorable reaction from people all around the world and at every stage of the value chain. “ITMA has been a great platform for future collaboration needed to scale breakthrough innovations like ours, to make a positive change for the textile industry by offering better fibers to all,” said Ida Alnemo, head of application and sustainability at TreeToTextile and a first-time exhibitor at ITMA.

“ITMA 2023 is one of the few international shows that did not experience a drop in the number or quality of visitors following the pandemic.” This speaks volumes about ITMA’s genius. The Milan show has set the standard for ITMA 2027 in Hanover. “We are eager and confident to continue ITMA’s success story 36 years after it was hosted there,” stated Dr. Janpeter Horn, chairman of VDMA Textile Machinery, summarizing the good reception from attendees.
