Swiss sportswear manufacturer Publishes Impact Progress Report and establishes challenging goals

On, a Swiss sportswear business, has released its 2022 Impact Report, which offers updates on the firm’s progress toward its sustainability goals. The report emphasizes two important areas of progress while building on objectives stated in 2019 as part of its first Impact Progress Report. The brand’s CO2eq emissions per unit fell by 12% in comparison to 2019, and it used 85% more recycled polyester in its products. The running gear specialist also says that in 2022, 30% of the materials it used across all product categories were petrochemical-free, while this percentage increased to 64% in just its garment and accessory segment.

By 2024, On intends to have 100% recycled polyester and polyamide. Within the same timeframe, it also plans to employ exclusively cotton that is 100 percent recycled or organic. We’re quite proud of our good trajectory toward meeting our sustainability targets, said On’s head of ESG, Begum Kurkcu. We’re demonstrating that it’s possible to expand our company while still putting the environment first. This is amazing given the rapid expansion of our business and the addition of new stores and offices to our existing physical footprint.

On has outlined goals for cutting its greenhouse gas emissions in the future. It intends to reduce Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 46% in absolute terms and Scope 3 emissions by 55% in terms of economic intensity by 2030.

According to the research, a third of On’s Tier 1 suppliers presently use renewable energy, to have all strategic Tier 1 partners run entirely on renewable energy by 2027. Other actions mentioned in the paper provide an update on On’s most recent circularity-based business efforts. These include its Cyclon and Onward programs, which provide ways for customers to close the loop as their products reach the end of their useful lives as well as resale opportunities and product subscription services. The company has recently joined the Ellen MacArthur Foundation.
