Partnership for improved traceability between Alpine and FibreTrace

SINGAPORE – Singapore FibreTrace, a provider of traceability technologies, and Alpine Group, a maker of garments, are working together on an initiative to speed up supply chain transparency in the fashion industry.

Through a combination of digital and physical technology, the FibreTrace system is intended to give visibility into the travel of textile fibers. It makes use of a patented luminous pigment that is integrated into the raw fiber, tracked and validated with scanning devices, and then used across the global supply chain. All of this information is then recorded in a digital blockchain system, thereby creating a digital passport for each product.

Consumers will be able to track the history of their clothing with just one QR code scan thanks to a partnership between FibreTrace technology and Egypt-based Alpine’s broad sourcing and production network. This will improve their capacity to make knowledgeable purchases.

The cooperation, according to Ashok Mahtani, co-founder and chairman of Paradise Textiles, the Alpine Group’s center for material science and innovation, will assist the company’s clients while also empowering customers to hold companies accountable.

“Fashion is a broken system, and we operate in a system that relies on a take-make-dispose model,” he declared. “We are also aware of the widespread use of false information in the sector. Consumers, retailers, and brands are all in a state of confusion. Scaling climate-positive technologies is an imperative activity on the fashion industry’s path to sustainability and mirrors Alpine Group’s objective to make fashion suitable for the future given the significant negative impact of processing in the sector.

“We are thrilled to partner with Alpine Group to drive sustainable transformation in the textile and apparel industry,” said Shannon Mercer, CEO of FibreTrace. Together, we can hasten the textile and apparel industries’ access to traceable, ethically produced fibers and finished clothing.

Beginning in the first quarter of 2024, the ‘Fuze Family’ of performance fabrics from Paradise created from recycled raw materials will be equipped with FibreTrace’s technology.

Alpine Group, which was established by Ashok and Lalu Mahtani 40 years ago, has developed from a family business into a large corporation that aims to raise the bar for ethical sourcing and production while also establishing new norms for the future of fashion.

Its Alex Apparels business, which supplies several international brands and employs 5,400 people and 3,500 machines to produce 24 million garments annually, is Egypt’s largest supplier of clothing worldwide.

The United Creations Group also comprises United Creations, the largest polo shirt producer in Jordan, which has recently expanded with the purchase of a new facility with the capacity to make five million items yearly.
