The Pakistan Cotton Ginners Association reports that cotton production in Pakistan has increased by 82% over the previous year.
The country received almost 6.8 million cotton bales at ginning facilities by October 31st, up from the previous year’s 3.7 million bales, which were negatively impacted by floods and excessive rainfall.
The South Sindh province, which had suffered significant crop losses the year before, saw an astounding 132% increase in cotton production. Pakistan’s textile sector still requires the importation of cotton bales to meet its demand, even with this significant growth.
For the textile industry, the Federal Committee on Agriculture has set a target of 11.5 million bales of cotton consumption.
According to the union, even though the overall cotton production for this year is predicted to be about 9.5 million bales, textile industry executives would need to import an extra two million bales to fulfill the necessary quantity.
