Organic Cotton can be included in the OEKO-TEX Standard 100: Hohenstein

OEKO-TEX officially released its new Organic Cotton mark in April 2023. Hohenstein stated that textile firms whose goods have been certified with the OEKO-TEX Standard 100 can now have their certificates extended to an Organic Cotton certificate after verifying ecological manufacturing.

“A combination with OEKO-TEX Made In Green is ideal,” said Ivonne Schramm, Hohenstein’s OEKO-TEX head. “This ensures environmental friendliness, transparency, and socially responsible conditions all in a single certification.”

The new organic label assures that all organic cotton labeling criteria are satisfied. In addition to conforming to OEKO-TEX Standard 100, it assures that the cotton includes less than 10% genetically modified material, adheres to pesticide limitations, and is of organic origin.

The certificate may be used for both finished objects (such as T-shirts and bedspreads) and textile intermediate products (such as raw fibers and yarns). However, hybrids of organic and conventional farming are not authorized.
