Two sustainable cotton thread products have been released by the world’s largest thread manufacturer, American & Efird (A&E), and each has been awarded a Gold Level Cradle to Cradle (C2C) Certified Material Health Certificate. These new products add to an already impressive sustainable thread portfolio and enable greater sustainability and circularity within the textile industry by meeting the material health requirements of the multi-attribute C2C Certified Product Standard.
According to a press release from A&E, its new Anecot Plus SPC and Chroma SPC long-staple cotton thread products are specially processed using best manufacturing practices and are made with C2C compliant dyes and chemicals, offering additional eco-friendly options to customer brand and retail partners seeking certified, sustainable thread products to directly support their respective environmental goals.
Chris Alt, president of A&E, said, “We are happy to continue providing our customers with sustainable sewing thread alternatives. “We continue to be dedicated to developing ethical sewing threads, from totally recycled options like those in our ECO100 thread line to our 100 percent biodegradable and organic products. We are committed to using innovations to satisfy both the present and future needs of our clients while also acting responsibly toward the environment and the communities in which we operate.
C2C Certified is a mark indicating safer, more environmentally friendly products designed for a circular economy. Products under C2C are assessed according to their general level of safety, responsibility, and reusability when their useful lives are done. A&E’s achievement of the Gold level C2C Certified status demonstrates its unrelenting commitment to reducing its ecological footprint as it works to become an ecologically responsible contributor to a regenerative economy.
Jimmy Summers, chief sustainability officer of Elevate Textiles, said, “The C2C program certifies products designed for a circular economy and challenges us to re-think the way we make them.” “Products certified under C2C are graded according to their general product safety, responsibility, and capacity for reuse once their useful life has passed. A response to increased business and consumer interest in learning more about the chemicals used in products throughout their supply chains and avoiding chemicals of concern is provided by the Material Health Certificate. This supports us as we work to develop circularity and even safer product chemistries. Since 2021, A&E with Elevate Textiles has had material health certifications from C2C.
