PATOKI: To protect the quality of the output, agricultural experts have urged farmers to start selecting cotton when 50% of the bolls are open and to avoid picking from half-open bolls.
After the dew has dried, the plants should be clipped, beginning at the lower, open tendrils and working your way upward, advises Chaudhry Arshad Ali, the Agriculture Officer.
He advocated avoiding polypropylene bags and picking using cotton bags instead.
The authority further stated that cotton with a moisture level of 8% to 10% should be stored in a dry, well-ventilated place. When selecting cotton, growers should take the weather forecast into account, according to Arshad Ali. If rain is predicted, wait until the tendrils are dry after the downpour to avoid damaging them.
Farmers may increase their yield by implementing contemporary technologies in cotton cultivation, he said. Muhammad Nawaz, a planter, emphasized the significance of timely and reasonably priced access to government-provided fertilizers and high-quality seeds to maximize cotton production without incurring losses.
According to him, April 1 through May 31 is the ideal time of year in Punjab for cotton farming.
Planters are used in drill and track cultivation, as well as manual labor.
