JAKARTA – Lenzing, a specialist in cellulosic fiber, has finished several additional technical upgrades at its Indonesian manufacturing facility in Purwakarta.
Since 2021, Lenzing has made more than €100 million in the location, converting the factory to renewable electricity and converting existing capacity to produce specialty viscose.
The Purwakarta facility will now produce fibers with the Veocel and Lenzing Ecovero brands for nonwoven applications as part of its strategy to pursue EU Ecolabel accreditation.
The Lenzing Group’s CEO, Stephan Sielaff, stated that the target of decreasing carbon emissions per ton of product by 50% by 2030 and reaching carbon-neutral manufacturing by 2050 would be helped by the production enhancements and the move to renewable energy sources.
He added that Lenzing continued to anticipate significant development potential, particularly in Asia, in the need for specialty fibers with low environmental implications. We are better able to meet this expanding demand because of our investments in Indonesia and other Lenzing locations across the world. Meanwhile, we keep pushing for the transformation of the textile industry’s linear to circular business model and working nonstop to make the sectors in which we operate even more sustainable.
Keep an eye out for a new Ecotextile Talks podcast that explores the company’s future intentions in the region on Tuesday, September 5, for more details on this and other recent Lenzing efforts.
