Sweden offers Bangladesh help to ensure the sustainability of the RMG sector

Sweden has reached out to Bangladesh with a proposal for a cooperative endeavor to promote sustainability in the apparel industry. This suggestion was made during a recent discussion between state minister for Power, Energy, and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid and Swedish ambassador to Bangladesh Alexandra Berg Von Linde at the latter’s ministry office in the secretariat in the country’s capital, Dhaka.
In line with talks on shared interests throughout the meeting, the Swedish envoy explored ways to further support Bangladesh’s growth of renewable energy. She expressed Sweden’s long-standing participation in the Bangladeshi garment industry and cited the nearly 40 years of cooperation of Swedish businesses like H&M, IKEA, and Lindex.

In response, Nasrul Hamid gave a cordial greeting and reaffirmed Bangladesh’s sincere attempts to promote renewable energy. He informed the ambassador about current activities, such as the production of 12,047MW of electricity from solar power installations and other renewable sources. In addition, Nasrul Hamid emphasized the necessity for more research into wind energy and the nation’s goal of obtaining 40% of its electricity from renewable sources by 2041.

He did, however, note that significant investment is required for renewable energy and stressed the significance of supporting infrastructure for modernization and growth, especially in the smart grid and transmission networks.
