In India, Bluesign introduces sustainable Impact Services

Bluesign has introduced its new offering, called Impact Services, for the Indian markets as part of its continued drive to offer value propositions and sustainable solutions to the global textile supply chain. During seminars held on August 4, 2023, in Tiruppur and August 2, 2023, in Bengaluru, the service was introduced. “Sustainable Textile Manufacturing – the Bluesign way” was the focus of the seminars. Leading corporations and association organizations attended the activities.

The Tiruppur Exporters Association’s honorary chairman and founding president, Dr. A Sakthivel, presided over the event, which was hosted at the Poppys Vista Hotel in collaboration with the AIC NIFT TEA, TEA, TEKPA AEPC, ROSPA, and DAT. According to a news release from bluesign, speakers included TR Srikanth, president of TEKPA, Raju VR Palaniswamy, president of ROSPA, K Nagesh, president of the Tiruppur Dyes and Chemical Merchant Association, and V Sudhakar, joint secretary of the Tiruppur Dyers Association.

Top Indian companies including Arvind Ltd, ABFRL, Reliance, Raymond, Shahi Exports, Myntra Fashions, and Page Industries attended the conference in Bengaluru, which was held at the Chancery Hotel with bluesign system partner Resil Chemicals. Participants included representatives from the buying and dyeing houses.

Periswamy, CEO of AIC NIFT TEA, spoke at both sessions about environmental, social, and governance (ESG) and how the G20 countries are emphasizing an ESG framework. Prashant Pote, country CRM for India, and Katharina Mayer, regional CRM for the Indian Subcontinent, gave the seminars, which covered the history of Bluesign, its 23-year global journey, and the services that Bluesign provides.

According to Mayer, Bluesign is a full-service solutions system with an emphasis on sustainable chemistry for the textile value chain. Together with their system partners, which include brands, manufacturers, and chemical suppliers, the bluesign team employs a holistic approach to implement and develop innovative solutions to improve environmental performance and working conditions, and by reducing resource consumption to create the highest level of safety for people, the planet, and consumers while having the least impact. This is done through thorough on-site assessments, input stream management, and active chemical change management.

Beyond using the “right chemicals,” which harm people and the environment the least, sustainability has advanced to include producing in a way that is first aware of the production site’s impact data and then able to use the appropriate leverage to lessen the impact. Like the British scientist Lord Kelvin, who was born in 1824 and died in 1907, “If you can’t measure it, you can’t improve it.”

“With more than 800 Global Bluesign System partners and counting, India has always been a great potential market for providing such kind of services, and we are eagerly looking for brands, mills, and dyeing houses to join the system partnership.”

With the current global changes, India, which has a long history of producing textiles, has the potential to become more than just a price-sensitive market by becoming a respected and accountable player in sustainable and clean textile production. The lecture informed us that Bluesign had introduced its Impact service, a more condensed version of its parent service, the Bluesign System Partnership. The Impact service is priced affordably to assist businesses in making competitive assessments and to position them for the best possible impact reporting to brands. This report will be bluesign approved and can be shared as the organization’s sustainability index, Mayer continued.

Since the bluesign effect measurement is exactly what society in general and brands in particular are requesting, the majority of the manufacturers in attendance demonstrated a genuine interest in it.
