The parent company of the garment brands Champion, Bonds, Maidenform, and Bali, HanesBrands Inc., wants to achieve zero waste in all sectors of the business by 2025, as stated in its most recent Sustainability report.
The study delineates the steps the apparel company has taken to ensure it fulfills its sustainability targets for 2025 to 2030, which are centered around its three primary pillars: people, planet, and product. It was launched on April 20th in observance of Earth Day.
The Science Based aims initiative approved Hanesbrand’s near-term science-based aims in 2023. These targets include a 25 percent decrease in water and energy consumption. Since 2019, the company has decreased its absolute Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 53% and its intensity by 41%. Nearly 60% of the electricity used is produced from renewable resources, and 94% of the waste from HanesBrands-owned enterprises is removed from landfills.
In addition to achieving zero garbage by 2025, HanesBrand intends to transition to 100% renewable electricity by 2030. According to the most recent report, HanesBrands’ sustainability measures have saved US$23 million since establishing its targets in 2020, and more than US$10 million is anticipated to be saved in 2023.
Steve Bratspies, CEO of HanesBrands, said in a statement, “I’m incredibly proud of the work we have done over the years to drive us closer to reaching our aggressive goals around People, Planet, and Product.”
