The ReSuit initiative has been looking for a way to recycle textiles for the last three years. The project coalition is now prepared to share its encouraging results.
We have worked on Denmark’s first large-scale textile recycling initiative, ReSuit, for the past three years alongside researchers, recycling professionals, behavioural experts, and other textile and fashion enterprises. ReSuit has worked to create new technologies to repurpose textile waste into new textiles and raise the bar for fashion design by emphasizing durability and enhanced recyclability. The project team is now prepared to present further encouraging results.
Two novel technologies
Among other things, ReSuit has demonstrated that discarded polyester fabrics may be recycled into new polyester textiles. Furthermore, by employing a unique technique that turns the waste clothes into bio-oil and chemical building blocks for the creation of new polyester and plastic-based products, the initiative has been successful in recycling clothing waste that was previously thought to be difficult to recycle.
“At BESTSELLER, we possess the size and knowledge to contribute to the answer, but we are also fully aware of the difficulties facing the fashion sector. For this reason, we approached ReSuit with an open mind and the knowledge that innovation is essential to changing the fashion business into one that is more sustainable, says BESTSELLER’s Innovation Manager Camilla Skjønning Jørgensen.
“When innovation works alongside other actors, it is most effective. As a result, ReSuit is a special project that addresses the issue holistically by taking into account every phase of the clothing’s lifetime, from design to use to recycling. According to Camilla Skjønning, “this focus on the entire process is crucial for creating a more sustainable future in the fashion industry.”
Aarhus University, Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, Crossbridge Energy A/S, Elis Denmark, Behave Green, Danish Technological Institute, and Design School Kolding are among the members of the ReSuit cooperation. Innovation Fund Denmark is providing funding for it.
