Lenzing’s manufacturing facility in Purwakarta, Indonesia, has been granted accreditation to the EU Ecolabel criteria for the production of cellulosic fibers.
The facility, which recently underwent several technical improvements, will now produce fibers with the Lenzing Ecovero and Veocel brands for nonwoven applications.
The factory is anticipated to help Lenzing reach its targets of reducing carbon emissions per ton of product by 50% by 2030 and reaching carbon-neutral production by 2050 thanks to the completion of a switch to renewable energy sources.

Lenzing is now better positioned to meet the rapidly expanding demand for ecologically friendly fibers, according to Stephan Sielaff, chief executive officer of the Lenzing Group. Lenzing previously produced specialty viscose using its former manufacturing facilities.
To advance the change of the textile business model from linear to circular, he stated, “We are working tirelessly to make the industries in which we operate even more sustainable.”
“I am thus thrilled that we have now gained the EU Ecolabel, which again validates our performance in terms of sustainability.
As well as in other Lenzing locations around the world, our investments in Indonesia “put us in an even better position to meet the growing demand for specialty fibers with low environmental impact.”
Lenzing announced that going forward, it aims to produce its Ecovero Black fiber at the Purwakarta plant in addition to Ecovero and Veocel viscose for nonwovens.
